On March 21 and March 23, several students’ parents came to Nanmo high school to introduce their career to all the students in grade 10. These parents work in a variety of focus areas: economics, computer technology, design, planning, and administration.
The introduction of a father who works at Nokia was very distinctive. He explained to us in English what the communication industry is, the role, status and development degree of communication in China and even in the world. He brought Nokia parts to his presentation and let us take turns observing them carefully. It was really new for us to touch the texture of these chips with our own hands. As we watched, he also talked about where Nokia is headed now. We all gained a great deal of knowledge.
Later, an Instructor from Shanghai Tongji university introduced the design industry to us. He mainly introduced to us the classification of environmental planning and the current situation of urban and rural planning in China. In addition to environmental design, he also introduced us to interior design. After listening to his introduction, we knew that things seem to have a soul after design, which is a sense of achievement for designers. Design is the ability to turn mediocrity into beauty. He showed us the charm of design incisively and vividly.
The third presentation from a police officer was also very interesting. Many people admire the police since they are young, because they are brave, catch criminals and maintain public order. This time he told us about the most common types of cases, showing how the police caught the criminals, and how they behaved. There were thefts, drug dealers and so on. What attracted the students’ attention most was that, when he told the story, he also showed us a brief documentary about catching the suspects, which made everyone focused. I think this presentation is very close to our daily life, which not only enables us to better protect ourselves, but also enables many students to renew their cognition and interest in this profession.
Another parent works as an IT manager. Many students, especially the boys, have developed a great interest in this career. As we know, the universal application of IT is a sign of our information society. IT has entered people’s daily life, and has many benefits such as online shopping. This parent is engaged in the information technology manager related to business, and usually uses information technology to manage the mall, such as the statistics of the turnover of the mall. His daily work has refreshed our understanding of IT. IT is not only used in computers and the Internet, but also in business. He let more students change the one-sided idea and have interest in IT.
I have only talked about a few parents here, but there are a lot of good presentations. Thanks to the parents who came prepared, students now have a deeper understanding of these occupations and a clearer direction of their future.
