39 years ago, a man went on a long journey in obscurity. No one, not even he, knew how this action would change Canada. From east to west, people could see a figure running a full marathon daily through gusts of wind; neither rain nor snow could stop him to run across the country. Having had one leg amputated due to cancer, he persevered for 143 days and finished 3339 miles. Though he was eventually forced to end by the spread of cancer, the spirit of never losing hope was imprinted on Canadians.
At Nanmo, the Terry Fox Run is held annually to raise money and awareness of cancer research. This year’s run will feature some changes. One of the most significant changes is that the T-shirts are printed with the officially designed patterns for the first time. Otherwise, the tradition of throwing pies is also replaced by a mysterious new interaction. As more products are going to be on sale, more information about the activity will be released.
Several students were interviewed about these new changes. Charlie Ng from 12C showed a peculiar interest on the special activity. He claimed that he would buy at least 5 bracelets trying to win the chance. “Nothing can stop my determination!” Also, Peter Huang from 12C said he was looking forward to the following warm-ups. As one of the students who had pre-ordered the T-shirts, he also fully appreciated this year’s design. “I wish I have ordered one more for my little brother.”
As for the volunteering of the warm-up weeks, students from all grades participated in this event. Many grade 12s have also presented a great extent of leadership while they were managing the activities. The Human Resource Manager, John Yu from 12C has organized the volunteers to help sell the T-shirts and has also communicated with different managers to cope with the deal. Other volunteers have contributed a lot to the event as well.
The Terry Fox Run will take place on April 26. Let us wait to see what will happen.
