On the afternoon of October 29th, the Shanghai Nanyang Model Private High School students tacitly put on grotesque and eye-catching costumes and gathered at the Hall. They laughed and cheered, generating surges of Halloween vibes. A series of splendid performances and a highly anticipated “Costume Show” were portrayed based on the Harry Potter theme, which is utterly popular amongst students, turning the corners of Nanmo’s campus into Hogwarts. Everyone actively participated in various games and showed their support to every performer who devoted so much. Through the interactions and collaborations with the BC teachers in games, it turned out to be a marvelous opportunity for all the Grade 10s to blend in while feeling the creative and cohesive school spirit.
To ensure a magical assembly for everyone, the Student Council endeavoured to overcome obstacles they encountered during the transition. They meticulously planned the procedures, wracked their mind for inspiring designs and prepared logistics in advance. With insufficient manpower, the Student Council luckily recruited a group of enthusiastic Grade 10s as volunteers to help out. On the night before the assembly, everyone collaborated to cast magic on the venue— hanging pumpkin lanterns, blowing balloons, drawing witches, brooms and crescents on the blackboard. As the dusk fell and got darker, the last rehearsal eventually headed to its end after meeting the rigorous criteria proposed by the performers themselves. The night hides the traces of magic to nourish a surprise for the next day. In the Nanmo community, the helpful circumstance, dedication and unremitting pursuit of excellence are fully apparent throughout the preparations for the Halloween assembly. It is the magic created by Nanmo’s Lion spirit！
The clock ticked to the assembly time! The influx of thrilled and well-dressed teachers and students invigorated the sleeping hall. As everybody was neatly seated, the rally began with the mysterious opening speech by the host. After completing each challenge, the audience would get a spell from Harry Potter to dispel the evil forces that tried to disturb Halloween. For the first pie challenge, Ms. Johnston kindly made some pie for the contestants to enjoy with their faces only. With the participation of teachers and students, such an interesting and intense competition incurred incessant cheers from audiences. Then, the students from Grade 11 performed the fascinating Sorting Hat scene in Harry Potter in dubbing sitcoms. The superb acting and vivid dubbing granted the scene an immersive experience. The traditional Halloween event, Halloween Costume Show was on the horizon as Mr. Hillian temporarily took the MC’s job in his Rick wig and lab uniform. The miscellaneous costumes and some hilarious combinations took the assembly to a climax full of cheer, laughter and candies. To wrap up the assembly, members from the Student Council brought everyone a carefully rehearsed Harry Potter-themed dance. Thanks to their efforts, Nanmo had become even more energetic and welcoming. The students of Nanmo Community presented a harmonious atmosphere and vigorous optimism through active participation as well as presentation of their well-rounded skills. Collectively, they made an unforgettable Halloween for everyone.
