“The International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.” (internationalwomensday.com) Women fought for centuries to get people’s attention on the issue of gender equality, so March 8th is the day to raise the public awareness of how women contribute to society. Equality in gender makes for a more balanced society. We respect all the activists in the history that pushed people to the new age of human rights, and also, we students appreciate all the dedication of our dear teachers.
The Nanmo Students’ Union made elaborate preparations for celebrating this special day. They planned carefully and started to write greetings on cards for teachers a couple of days before. In addition, they prepared gifts including a small wind chime and a bookmark. During the lunch break, the members of SUID gathered to make things organized and went to all the teachers’ offices to give the gifts. Because classes were starting earlier than usual that day due to another event, they were a little bit hurried, and all works were done perfectly just before the bell went. Though very simple, they represented the best wishes to teachers. Students wanted to do something in their own way to let the female teachers feel special being a woman.
Women’s day gives us the chance to express appreciation toward females around us, involving not only teachers, but also our mothers and grandmothers who always devote their time and energy to support us. In fact, any women with courage and determination deserves respect. The spirit of women’s day should be remembered. Happy International Women’s day to all!
