On October 9th, Ms. Sagebelle Wu came to Nanmo to give a speech on the application process of the University of Toronto (U.of T.). She shared helpful information and her personal experiences at U.ofT. so we learned a lot. At the beginning of her speech, she talked about three things she wanted us to remember. First, University of Toronto is ranked number one among all research universities in Canada and number two in North America. Second, Toronto is a multi-cultural city and more than 140 languages are spoken in Toronto. Third, Toronto has the cleanest water in the world. The water quality is tested every two to three hours, so Toronto will be a very suitable city to live in.
Ms. Wu also talked about the residence in U.of T. There are seven colleges in St. George campus available for students to choose, which are: New College, Woodsworth College, University College, Trinity College, Innis College, Victoria College and St. Michael’s College. Each college has a different location, cafeteria, conditions and costs, so it is very important to make decisions wisely when applying to U.of T.
After hearing so many excellent points about this top university, the part that interested us the most was how to get into U.of T. There are three rounds of applications for 2020 fall admissions. It is recommended to apply early to be considered in the first round. We can only apply to three programs among Mississauga Campus, Scarborough Campus and the faculty of Kinesiology, Arts and Science, Engineering, Architecture and Music in St. George Campus. A change in the application process this year is that English Studies 12 must be included in the calculation of our average. Other than pre-requisites, other top academic courses will be considered to make six courses in total.
Grade 12 students were given another forty minutes to ask questions to Ms. Wu and brochures with detailed information of U.ofT. University application this year has already started, so we hope every student can get offers from their dream universities!
