After comprehensive evaluations, six Star Students from Nanmo BC have stood out. Let’s get to know more about them!
Grade 10 Star Student
Jenny Dong
- As a Top Student Award winner, Jenny Dong has exceled in Social Studies, Spoken Language, Composition, and Drama. Her active participation in all the classes was also noted by many teachers. Working in the group has not only enabled her to help other students, but also developed her leadership skills, which also helps her preside over class meetings.
- Apart from volunteering to do the blackboard presentation in the classroom and the hallway, Jenny Dong joined a series of clubs like SUID, Art Appreciation, and Programming. Besides, she participated in the Terry Fox Run and Sports Day.
Jenny Sun
- As a top grade 10 student in Drama and Science, Jenny Sun has been the host of flag raising on Monday. Being a self-motivated learner, Jenny Sun won first prize at the 10th Bochung Cup Business Simulation Competition and second prize in the class meeting competition on behalf of her homeroom. Her interest in sports and arts won her first place in the 1000 m race at the sports meeting and the hosting certificate of level 7 in an Art Exam.
- Jenny takes leadership seriously. As the class monitor of 10C, she knows how to lead and help the class.
- Outside of class, Jenny Sun is also a member of SUID, a player of three Frisbee clubs (Nanmo and two outside clubs), and a broadcaster on Fridays. It is worth mentioning that she joined adult frisbee clubs and is the youngest member in the Dolphins’ club history.
Grade 11 Star Student
Jenny Jiang
Jenny Jiang did spectacular work both in academic and extracurricular activities. In addition to being the most outstanding student in Grade 10, winning the 5th place in the Waterloo math contest school-wide, and gaining the highest score in Real Talk, she received the Excellent Award for YOC (Youth Observation Communication) and 1st in the 1200m race. Jenny Jiang’s passion for Frisbee drove her to join clubs both in and out of school. She has enhanced her leadership skills via being the spirit captain of her Frisbee school team and the vice president of ISU (International Student Union), a student organization holding activities among international schools.
Rick Liu
The experiences of Rick Liu show that to balance one’s study and hobby builds a great student. As the Minister of the Sports Department and the class Sports Commissioner, Rick has encouraged his classmates to engage in more physical activities by being a role model for them. He is a member of the school hockey team and school basketball team and the winner of the schoolwide long-distance running competition.
In Grade 10, Rick was recognized as the Most Improved Student, and later he won the mid-year award of excellence in Literacy Studies 11. Rick also plays saxophone in his spare time.
Grade 12 Star Student
Kanna Liu
Nominated as a great leader, Kanna is a lead by example kind of student. Apart from ranking as one of the top students in many Math contests, including the Euclid, Hypatia and Canadian Mathematics contests, Kanna exceled in most Grade 12 classes (Physics, Chemistry, AP Microeconomics, etc.). As a peer tutor, she impressed everyone by taking the role as an IELTS guide, English teaching volunteer, and Math and Science tutor. She also performed extraordinarily as a leader in group projects, a COVID-19 period class manager, an SUID Inspection discipline member, a peer tutor and key member of the Writing Center, and the Vice President of the Science and Technology Innovation Club not only has made a difference in the school community, but also paved her way to excellence.
Rainna Fang
Rainna has made exceptional achievements in the past school year. Academically, she was awarded the Merit Student of 2020, the Model Student of P.E. in the 1st semester of 2020, and the Model Student of Music and P.E. in the 2nd semester of 2020. Her passion and talent for music drove her to obtain the Grade 10 Certificate of flute in the Graded Examination with a certified Intermediate Grade in Basic Theory of Music and, not surprising, the Deputy Leader of the school Orchestra Club. In addition to joining the Committee of Banquette Arrangement, Rainna took the leadership role in Minnan Cup Basketball Game (responsible for schedule arrangement and promotional activities), Autumn Sports Meeting, the Long-Distance Race in Spring 2020, and the Rope Race in Spring 2020.
