Greetings from Shanghai Nanyang Model Private High School!

Another exciting year is under way here at Nanmo Private! We are most happy welcome all the new Grade 10 students and, of course, all the returning Grade 11s and 12s. We are also welcoming to our school community 4 new BC teachers to our Nanmo family. These new teachers, together with our returning staff is one of the strongest I’ve had the pleasure to work with. I am looking forward to the year ahead.

Only three weeks into classes, basketball tryouts have occurred, band members are already scheduling shows, and teachers are delving into their BC curriculum classes with vigor! It’s safe to say that the school is set up for another great year of activities and learning.

As in previous years, 100% of our grade 12 students received admission to post-secondary institutions abroad, and many are starting their first weeks of classes at top Canadian universities like the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, Queens, Western, Waterloo, and the University of Alberta. A number of our Nanmo graduates are also attending top institutions outside of Canada, including universities throughout the United Kingdom and Australia. We are very proud of their efforts and cannot wait to hear all about their successful studies abroad!

This year, while we are still under some Covid-19 restrictions, we are happy to see that great progress has been made throughout China to keep it controlled. What this means for us here at Nanmo is that we can have our students engage more in extracurricular activities. We are looking to continue to develop at our school a strong and competitive Ultimate Frisbee program so that we can compete well with other local schools. I have also been very excited to see the growing numbers of students in our creative arts classes. Over the last two years the number of fine arts classes and sections has increased dramatically. We are hoping to continue to develop and expand our fine arts program as I believe that developing one’s creative capabilities allows our students to develop their whole brain and with that improves their learning in other areas as well.

I’m looking forward to working with such a positive, energetic, and collaborative school community here in Shanghai. I know I speak on behalf of everyone when I say that the 2021-22 school year will be a fantastic year.
