Applying for universities is one of the most stressful tasks for grade 12 students. Most of the students hire an agent to help them with their applications. However, I did not choose to do that. My mom and I made this decision for several reasons. First, we think some agents are unreliable and it costs too much money. Second, it is a great chance for me to learn new things. I applied for universities with the help of my mom. I am thankful to her for giving me a lot of support.

I wrote my personal statement during the summer holiday. Before I started my writing, I searched for some videos about how to write a personal statement on YouTube. Some students who study in the UK give suggestions on writing a special personal statement that can attract admission officers’ attention. I need to let them know my passion for the program I apply to. Besides, I came up with some extracurricular activities to enrich the contents. I finished my first draft in two days. Actually, I spent most of the time writing up this article. After that, I sent my first draft to a friend who is already a university student. She revised my draft carefully.

I submitted all the materials when I got my term 1 grades. On a Friday morning, I opened my WeChat and I saw my mom’s message. I got an offer from the University of Manchester. This was my happiest moment of 2021. I was bursting with joy over this good news. I almost jumped with happiness.

My scores in grade 11 were not good enough, but I tried my best in grade 12 and I made great progress. I felt nervous and anxious before. I was worried the universities would reject me, but after I experienced all of these, I know my worries were for nothing. I’m delighted with this result. I also want to thank my family and friends again for helping me in my application process.

I hope all the students from Nanmo can get an offer from their dream university. If you don’t get a good result in the end, please don’t worry. Applying for university is essential, but it is just a small part of our life. There is a long way to go and we still have many opportunities. What we should do is cherish the last semester in Nanmo, do our best, and do what we can.
